Superstars Who Were Born or Live in the Seattle Area

I was inspired to post this because of a recent UFC fight I watched where a 43 year-old retired fighter from Everett Washington fought and beat an old friend (Tim Sylvia) who was 13 years younger, 7 inches taller and 55 pounds heavier. After claiming victory of the Heavyweight champion, I was inspired by the common trait of determination that Seattle tends to breed. With that said, here’s a short list of determined individuals who were born or reside in the Northwest.

Bill Gates – Labled as the richest man in the world, Microsoft founder Bill Gates was born in Seattle and lives in the east side community of Medina.
Paul Allen – The Microsoft co-founder and Seattle real estate tycoon is responsible for much of the urban development in the South Lake Union/Denny Triangle neighborhoods.
Randy Couture – Light-Heavyweight and Heavyweight champion of the world (at the age of 43) for UFC was born in Lynnwood, WA.
Bob Barker – Former host of the Price is Right was born in Washington but outside of Seattle in Darrington.
Kurt Cobain – Lead singer for Nirvana was born in Aberdeen, WA and had a home in Seattle near Lake Washington.
Fred Couples – Professional golfer for the PGA was born in Seattle.
Bing Crosby – One of the most popular singers and successful actors to have lived, Bing was born in Tacoma, WA.
John Elway – The Denver Broncos quarterback was born in Port Angeles, WA.
Jimi Hendrix – Known as one of the greatest musicians of all time was born in Seattle and buried in Renton.
Eddie Vedder – Lead singer for the band Pearl Jam, Eddie was asked to audition in Seattle where the band became an overnight success.
Bruce Lee – University of Washington philosophy student and martial arts icon is buried in Capitol Hill.
Dale Chihuly – American glass sculptor who’s boathouse studio is located at the north end of Lake Union.
Dave Matthews – Raised in Virginia, the musician moved to Seattle while his wife attended medical school. Dave, his wife Ashley Harper and twin daughters still call the Emerald City home.

Downtown Seattle’s Best Teriyaki

I lived in San Diego for 4 years and the food here in Seattle was one of my top 10 reasons for moving back. San Diego did have In and Out, Carl’s Jr. and California burritos, but there was only one place I knew of that served teriyaki; and it wasn’t much to rave about. Hungar struck me early today when I saw that Seattle’s teriyaki phenomenon was printed on the cover of the Seattle Weekly. Considering the large number of small restaurants in the area that serve the dish, it should be no surprise that the Asian cuisine has a local history. Therefore, if you’re from out of town expect a new found love for chicken and rice.

Brighten Any Condo with a Sunjel Fireplace

I came across a great product that allows condo owners the opportunity to have a fireplace without a chimney. Sunjel Fireplaces are portable and use a real flame. They’re surprisingly inexpensive, come in several different designs and don’t even require installation.

In speaking with a sales rep, I was told prices can vary from $300 to $1,500. Sunjel even has a wall hanging fireplace for those who would rather create an intimate home setting rather than hanging a $3,000 plasma TV.

I’ve yet to see one in action.
