South Lake Union Block Party

Celebrate the height of summer at the South Lake Union Block Party in South Lake Union on August 10! From noon to 11:00 p.m., you can expect jammin’ live music, tempting tidbits from local eateries, the Redhook beer garden, grilling demos, a ton of kids’ activities, a race for pups, and Cinema on the Lawn! This mini-festival is free all day, with a suggested donation of $5 (after 7:00 p.m.) to benefit KEXP, KUOW and SIFF.

Food and Furry Fun

South Lake Union restaurants Taco Del Mar, Southlake Grill, Paddy Coyne’s, Marazul, 13 Coins, Stix, Tutta Bella and many others will staff booths and offer succulent samples from noon to 9:00 p.m. ($1 suggested donation).

Kids

Kids are king this year, with a bounce house and lots of arts and crafts and interactive activities in the Kids’ Area.

Entertainment

Music-wise, the block will be rockin’ after 4:00 p.m..

Got Dirt?

A friend of mine has been building a retaining wall and laying brick in the front yard of his North Seattle rambler for the last year. I respect the guy for being a single young male building his castle, but I’ve tried over and over again to convince him of looking at downtown real estate. “I want a yard,” he always says. It wasn’t until he dropped off his girlfriend downtown and snapped the following picture on his phone that got him excited about urban condos. Guess I’ll need to get a Rolls to be more convincing to those who must have land.
